DOCTORATE DEGREE IN CANADA, It takes three to five years to complete a Ph.D. degree program in Canada. The doctoral program consists of three stages. In the first year, students enrol in the seminar courses related to their field, and take oral examination at the end of the year.
In the second year, students participate in mandatory workshops and present the abstract and one or two chapters of their dissertation. This gives them an opportunity to receive feedback, and hence to improve their work, and also to demonstrate their competence. Following the second year, students concentrate exclusively on their research and complete a 90,000-100,000 word dissertation, and defend it before a jury of faculty members.
Upon completing of the master’s degree, students may apply for a Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) that would be valid up to three years.
Students who work for one year are entitled to apply for residence permit and then for citizenship.
The PLP in Drafting Legislation, Regulation, and Policy has been offered by the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies with considerable success since 2004.
